Museum of Cultural and Natural History Virtual Exhibit

The Museum of Cultural and Natural History (MCNH) at Central Michigan University (CMU) holds over 60,000 objects in its historical, zoological, ethnographic, and anthropological collections. There are 13,000 artifacts in its historical collections alone. Of those, over 713 are textiles.

As part of a 2008 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, MCNH started a project to improve intellectual and physical control of its textile collection through cataloging, inventorying, and photographing. The project resulted in improving research opportunities for the textile collection and provided valuable hands-on training for students enrolled in the Museum Studies program. The project also updated the collections database records to current museum standards.

The MCNH virtual textile exhibit will expand accessibility of the collection to CMU faculty, students, and the community. Please visit often as the virtual exhibit will change as more objects are added. Thank you for visiting the MCNH virtual exhibit.
